Artist-In-Residence (AIR)
On-Site AIR is a chance for artists to get motivated so they can develop their art project while staying in Japan. It is good for artists who hope to focus on doing research and making art.
When living in a different culture and environment than where you were from, you will be able to spend your private time here so that you can become more creative or inspired. Through artistic activities, open studios, or exhibitions, the artists will have chances to meet people, have conversations with local artists, and get a better understanding of diverse cultures and arts.
In the On-Site AIR artists both domestic and international can work on their art projects in the studio, while staying in a Japanese style 2DK apartment (2 rooms + Dining room and Kitchen). The length of your stay in the AIR must be a minimum of one month to a maximum of three months, period of the validity of your visa. (Please contact us, if you would like to stay longer.) The artists could apply for the on-site AIR as a couple or group if they want to work and stay together.
We recommend the AIR artists to have open studios, exhibitions, and/or talk events in the studio or gallery space before their residency ends. The AIR artists can use the gallery space free of charge for those events during the AIR.
We also run an inkjet print shop next to the studio, and the artists' creations can be printed on the spot. The AIR artist can use the lab at a discounted rate (Paper and ink costs are not included here).
